We have just had such a beautiful fall here. It is cool, but hasn’t rained much and the trees are spectacular. The rain is going to start soon so we have been out and about enjoying the good weather as much as we can!
These pictures are from a hike in the foothills last weekend. Zach is obsessed with trekking poles, so Joe made him some little ones that Zach adores. Little Arlo loves being outside in his pack and totally fights falling asleep so he can watch the trees and his brother. It will be fun to watch them both scamper up the trail someday!
The addition is almost done- just need a few little things done and it is FINISHED! We are really excited (and I’m a little overwhelmed) about moving into the new space, but it will be so nice to have it done. We’ll post some pictures soon of the finished rooms! And of course, obligatory Halloween pcitures will probably be the next post. That is, if we can talk Zach into putting on his costume…
We went to the pumpkin patch with our pre-3 class today and had a great time. Last year, Arlo was about 16 cells (and we didn’t know about him yet) and Zach had just started walking. It was a whole new world today with Zach tearing all over the place and the baby to cart around. Next year they will both be mobile, how will I manage that?
I wrote this post a few weeks ago but couldn’t get the video to work… enjoy!
It is definitely fall here- the air is a little crisper, leaves are changing and it is getting dark much earlier. We’ve even had a little preview of the rainy, cool weather to come. But the last few days have been spectacular, and I have been soaking up as much sun as I can.
Last weekend we took the boys for their first “family hike”. I think it has been close to a year since we have done this, which is a little sad. The biggest change is that our little “big guy” has turned into quite the hiker! We let him out of his pack and he just took off down the trail and hiked probably close to a mile on a rough trail. Having a puppy dog to chase might have helped! It was so much fun- but took twice as long as usual. I wonder how long it will take when they both want to walk!
I’ve spent the entire weekend recovering from working last week. I cannot believe how exhausting it is to take care of two little guys and try to work a few days a week. And I’m lucky, I only have to do this three days a week! I feel spread pretty thin- not enough time to be a the mom I want to be or enough energy to be the physician I should be. And poor Joe, I feel like I give so much to the kids and the office, I’m just beat at the end of the day and probably not all that pleasant to be married to right now.
Joe watched the kids yesterday so I could go for a hike, which was wonderful. I started out my hike thinking “How did my life get so broken and how can I fix?” and ended feeling differently. I have a great life- a wonderful husband, two great kids, a job I love, great friends and family and a beautiful place to live, but we have made some big transitions this past year and it will take some time to figure out how it all works together again. And some sleep would help… I can’t remember the last time I got more than four hours of sleep in a row. Adding work to this much sleep deprivation, no wonder I feel so crummy!
So I will get over myself and maybe lower some expectations a little. I can’t do everything and I shouldn’t try. And in the meantime, I need to remember how blessed I am to have all these wonderful things in my life, even it is hard sometimes to figure out how they all work together.
So we survived my first call weekend, although poor Arlo wouldn’t take a bottle from Joe while I was gone (even when Joe put maple syrup on the nipple, that always worked for Zach). Hopefully Arlo and Dad figure it out soon since Mom is on call again tomorrow!
You no feel good? Take three jellybeans and call me for a playdate in the morning
My most memorable moment from the call weekend is this: I’m sitting on the floor on the bathroom, Zach is in the bathtub and I’m nursing the baby when my phone rings. The clinic phone is brand new and quite snazzy and a much coveted object by a certain toddler. I pick up the phone and as soon as I answer I hear “ME WANT DAT PHONE! DAT MY PHONE!”. The mom on the other line says “I think we have a bad connection” Bad connection?! You have no idea, but thanks for the out! I tell her I will call her back. I walk out to the kitchen to get our house phone and have just dialed the number only to turn around and find Zach, naked and dripping, standing in the kitchen with my nice clinic phone in his hand. Commence screaming just as the other mom answers her phone. Over the ruckus I tell her I will call her back. I get the phone away from Zach and get him back in the tub and I am finally able to answer my page. Ahhh, toddler moments. Oh, and I think Arlo was on my boob the entire time! Multitasking mama!
